Experienced the world war I & II, Berlin city is full of the places with stories. Historic attractions & activities you should visit during the Berlin vacation.
The place where the wall fell
The Berlin Wall Memorial is the central memorial site of the German division. It was built in a site where many people fled from the East to the West side of Berlin during the Cold War or died trying so. It is also the place where the division of Germany was peacefully overcome in 1989.
This memorial is a remarkable place to feel the atmosphere of the Cold War. The impressive documentary centre close by is definitely worth a visit for those who are interested in the consequences of the building of the wall for the city's population and its overcoming.
Outdoor history lessons for free
The Checkpoint itself is not the actual attraction (unless you are fond of fake Soviet soldiers) - however the municipality has been so kind as to erect a large and comprehensive overview of the Cold War history along the construction sites of Friedrichstraße right next to it.
