The South Rim of Grand Canyon: Open All Year

The South Rim is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year including all holidays. Also available year round are most visitor services such as camping, lodging, and restaurants. Camping and hotel Reservations are strongly recommended during spring, summer and fall.

Getting Around the Grand Canyon

Taking a bus, helicopter or guided hike is highly recommended if you're interested in getting the most out of your time here at the Grand Canyon. But if you'd like to get around not on a tour, there is a free shuttle bus system operates in the Grand Canyon Village area. Parking your car at the Visitor Center and using the free shuttle buses to get around the village will make experiencing the Grand Canyon much easier and more enjoyable.

The North Rim of Grand Canyon: Main Season - Mid-May to Mid-October


North Rim camping, hotels and food services within the park are open only from mid-May to mid-October due to winter weather conditions. Campgrounds fill up quickly and may be booked through Recreation.gov or find North Rim hotels here.

North Rim of Grand Canyon: Off-season


There is short period sometimes where the North Rim is open for day use only - October 15 through November 27, or until snow closes Highway 67. Food service and lodging is NOT available in the park during off-season. Call Grand Canyon NPS to find out if the park is open for day use.

Getting Around the Grand Canyon

The North Rim is the less traveled, more remote part of the Grand Canyon. There are a few tours and guided hikes in this area while this side of the park is open; but for the most part, this is where the outside enthusiasts come to play and explore the Grand Canyon their own way.

Grand Canyon National Park can be accessed by foot, skis or snowshoes, even when the North Rim entrance station is closed. Hikers and cross-country skiers are allowed to use the park's group campsites throughout the winter months if they have obtained a permit through the park's Backcountry Information Center. Private snowmobiles are not permitted.
